It's been a wet and windy winter here, but mild enough that shrubs and bulbs are budding up to bloom almost 2 months early. Hopefully that's the sign for a warm and early spring! However, even in winter there are moments of magic, as you can see from the photos of early morning fog drifting behind Rebecca Spit, and the late afternoon Alpenglow as the setting sun reflecting on the snow-capped mainland mountains.

And certainly, even during quiet season, there is a lot to enjoy on Quadra Island.

Every other Friday evening, beginning January 13, Friday Flicks presents a sizzling lineup of films, great eats at the concession, and a convivial atmosphere among film loving friends and neighbours. Join this almost 40 year old tradition of excellent international and art house films on the big screen in the Community Center. Good films, good food, good friends, great fun!

The Cultural Committee is pleased to present three events at the Community Center in the upcoming months. Join us January 15, at 7 p.m. for Pentaedre, a Montreal-based wind quintet. On February 5th, pianist Sarah Hagen and Trio Accord will perform works from Brahms and Beethoven. The last performance of the season is Steven Page, formerly of the Barenaked Ladies, on March 10 at 8 p.m.

Other events include a weekly indoor Winter Market on Saturdays 10-2 at the Community Center. Sierra Club presents a film festival weekend on January 20 and 21, with a focus of issues around food production. Yoga and fitness classes abound, every day of the week; drop-ins are welcome. Clubs and workshops offer the opportunity to learn about gardening, photography, singing, dancing, (yes belly dancing too). Several artist studios are open for visiting.

Outdoors, it's a good winter for hiking or biking many of the island trails. And of course, if rest and relaxation are on your priority list, you can't do much better than come for a stay at Harbour House B&B. We are open year round and look forward to welcoming you.
